Nerium: A Ripple Story from Mark

Because Nerium is devoted to making people better,” we launched the Nerium Ripple program, which challenges our Brand Partners to individually take responsibility and collectively change the world. Here’s a Ripple story from Mark, a real Nerium Brand Partner who strives to create a better world by paying it forward:

A roller coaster ride is an understatement when it comes to the range of emotions I have faced the past twelve months.

I have always been a positive-minded individual. I have listened to many personal development speakers, ranging from Jeff Olson to Tony Robbins to Zig Ziglar, and the list goes on. I myself have taught ways to use the mind as an ally, and yet for most of the past year, I have felt depressed, moody, and unenthusiastic about life. I unintentionally pushed away those I loved the most.

“The Joy just Wasn’t There…”

I was self-employed, working from home, but the joy just wasn’t there. I was merely going through the motions and was no longer the positive, happy guy I used to be.

Even though I had built my income to over six figures at one point, that income had dipped with the changes in the economy and other factors. By the start of 2012, my income was very shaky. I was losing my home, had to declare bankruptcy, went through a painful separation, and even had to give up my dog. In short, everything seemed to fall apart on me. It sounds like a bad country song, but it was my life!

My family was always supportive and they could see the unhappiness I was feeling. I found myself looking forward to sleeping each night so I could escape from the day. I shed many tears as I struggled to come to terms with my reality.

Though I never used to get on Facebook, I would still occasionally see posts from my friends who had migrated to Nerium. Through their written words, I could feel the happiness in
their tones. Through their pictures, I could see the fun they were experiencing. I was envious that I had missed the boat, not jumping in headfirst when other close friends had committed themselves to the experience with Nerium.

I texted two of my close friends, Dale and Danny, while they were in Cancun on a Nerium company trip. As I sat in a darkening room with the sun setting, a sense of hopelessness overcame me. I reached out to two of my best friends who in the past twelve months had gone from financial devastation to tens of thousands per month.

My words were simple: “I am very happy for your success. You deserve all you have earned and more.” Looking back, I realize it was a cry for help. I needed my friends’ shoulders to lean on through this tough ordeal. I was moving from my home in a short time, and despite the love of family and friends, I felt so alone.

Danny texted back first. Sensing the desperation in the tone of my text, he texted back that he would call. I ignored his call several times. I wanted to wallow in my misery, but I finally answered after Danny said he would hop on a plane that night if I didn’t take his call.

“That is the Nerium Ripple at work.”

My friend let me vent for over an hour. He listened and offered to fly to Maine to help me move with no strings attached. He was just willing to help a friend in need. That is the Nerium Ripple at work.
