How many of you made it to Get Real this year? I was thrilled to see so many young faces and so much enthusiasm surrounding our YEP program in Long Beach! I love to see young people take control of their future. You are truly never too young or too old to chase after your dreams. My journey as a young entrepreneur has been exhilarating, rewarding, and even scary at times. I wanted to share with you some important lessons I have learned along the way. I hope it inspires you to chase your dreams with abandon, no matter what age you are!

Be passionate. Success is not guaranteed by earning a certain degree or coming from a certain background, However, many successful people share one common attribute: they fearlessly chase their passions. For many, that may require completely changing careers in order to pursue what gets them out of bed each morning. Do what you love, and the rest will follow.

Be driven. Never get complacent. Ever. As soon as you accept that things are good enough, you’ve lost. Work hard every day so that when you have some time to look back, you can appreciate the tough moments and recognize how much stronger you are because of them. Becoming successful is a long and hard journey. Don’t be afraid to roll up your sleeves!

Be patient. There’s no such thing as an overnight success. For those of you expecting success to come quickly or easily, give up on that idea. It just doesn’t work that way! You will struggle. You will have setbacks. And ultimately, you will be better for them. I have no idea where I’d be if I’d given up because things were difficult, but I know exactly where I wouldn’t be.

Be fearless. I’ve spoken before about my silencers and how they used to hold me back. We all battle fears and insecurities that keep us from speaking out, reaching for something better, or trying to achieve more. Your belief in yourself has to be stronger than your doubt. Your silencer will always be there, but every time you turn up the volume of your own confident, self-assured voice – it gets easier to believe in your potential.

Build a family. I don’t mean go find a significant other and have kids (but that’s fun too!). I mean build a network of people you love to work with that will help you grow and push you to do your best work. I am surrounded every day by a fantastic team. We hold each other accountable and never settle for “ok”. We strive for great on every project, every day.

In the last three years, we’ve had to learn how to create a new company, product, and brand together. We’ve embraced the growing pains that every new company suffers in stride. We celebrate our successes and learn from our failures. Continually, my team reminds me that we can do great things together.

Keep perspective. It’s easy to lose sight of your larger goals and visions when you spend your days in the trenches, struggling with everyday tasks. Take some time to revisit and enjoy your accomplishments. Celebrate the small wins. Learn from the setbacks. Don’t take yourself too seriously. Focus on being better today than yesterday and growing even stronger tomorrow. But most importantly: BE YOU!

I appreciate and admire your dedication to building the career and life you want. And I’m honored that Nerium is a part of that dream. The YEP program and the talented and driven young entrepreneurs that comprise it are very special to me.

Success needs to be savored because it takes purpose, dedication, focus, and effort to achieve it. My hope is that you enjoy the journey as much as the destination. Thank you for being a part of Nerium.
